General Information

I will be hosting the 19th annual New Years weekend at Lake Shore Farm in Northwood, NH (about 55 minutes from MHT—the Manchester/Boston Regional Airport). This weekend features five sessions of C3B called at dance speed with heavy use of concepts and phantoms and one session of C4 (C-Gulls level). Clark often uses the Twisted Concept at the floor level. We use Vic Ceder's couple rotation system. The festivities start with the first dance on Friday afternoon at 3pm and run through the end of lunch at 1:30 PM on Sunday.

Many of us also enjoy family board games, strategy board games, card games, puzzles, or just getting to the weekend early and socializing. You are welcome to come for an extra day (for an additional fee).

Lake Shore Farm hosts square dance weekends and offers meals, dance hall, and lodging in one facility. Included are lodging for three days and two nights, six home-cooked meals (buffet dinner Saturday, and family style meals for Sunday breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and Monday breakfast and lunch), snacks after the evening dances, coffee and tea available all the time, a wooden dance floor, and a recreation room with a ping pong table, a pool table, and extra tables for puzzles and board and card games. It is a non-smoking weekend. Most rooms in the inn have their own bathroom; a few share a bathroom. Some have two double beds and some have a double bed and a twin bed. When we fill the inn (32 rooms), the overflow ends up in a motel 3 miles down the road (same rate). When we fill that motel, you may be asked to make your own reservations at a motel in Concord. There is also a nearby Bed and Breakfast (B&B) available at extra cost.

You may come for the entire weekend, including the pre-dance games party on Thursday, or you may choose to arrive after lunch on Friday for the dancing. If you come for the extra day, remember to bring some board games or puzzles. Depending on which schedule you choose, the cost of the weekend, including dance fee, room, meals and tip, is as follows:

2 People, 1 Room, Party & Dancing $570 (private bath) $561 (shared bath)
2 People, 1 Room, Dance Weekend Only $450 (private bath) $444 (shared bath)
1 Person, 1 Room, Party & Dancing $357 (private bath) $352.50 (shared bath)
1 Person, 1 Room, Dance Weekend Only $273 (private bath) $270 (shared bath)

People who attended in January 2010 who wish to retain their room preference must have their full payment to me by November 1, 2010. Make checks payable to Clark Baker and send them to 426 Marsh St., Belmont, MA 02478-1109. Preference will then be given to people who attended the weekend in previous years and who also have their reply in by November 1st.

Please let us know in advance if you are vegetarian, do not eat red meat, do not eat pork, or have other food restrictions for medical or religious reasons.

This weekend is open to anyone who can do the level. You need to be real good at C3, probably working on C4 to succeed and enjoy the weekend. If you have never attended, you should have workshopped tapes from previous years. If you know someone who should come, but needs that personal touch, let me know.

On the other hand, this weekend isn't appropriate for everyone. If you found yourself in a lot of unsuccessful squares last year, or if you can't do the tapes of the weekend without stopping the tape (say once per sequence or more), this isn't the right weekend for you. Even strong C3 dancers find this a fast, challenging weekend so you should consider whether that's the type of weekend you'll enjoy. Moreover, if during the weekend your squares have been having problems at the floor level, please don't take a number for the C4.
